2012 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

It’s Detroit Pride Time!

Being a Detroit native, I can’t help but have pride in the city I grew up in. Sure, it’s going through its fair share of troubles, such as the looming possibility of the city’s bankruptcy and its lawsuit against the state. Yikes, folks. These are serious issues that will be unfolding over the ensuing weeks and months.

So with all of the negative Detroit publicity going on, I choose to highlight some of its positives.

Case in point: the 2012 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

Let’s take a break from graphic design for a moment and have a short photo op. I got a chance to head over to Belle Isle, which made me nostalgia in and of itself, and checked out the festivities. The place was packed, and the cars were loud. Word on the street was that Patrick Dempsey was there, but I didn’t catch him. Oh well. We did get to see this car wipe out (no one was injured), which was a decent consolation prize.

We had a great time. It’s a shame if you missed it. Here are more photos, which I managed to snap before the huge storm hit. Enjoy!

And there are more interesting things in the works for the city. Word on the street is “Motor City Wives,” a show reality show focusing on high profile wives in Detroit, is in the works for the fall. Whether that brings up positive or negative media is yet to be determined. We’ll find out!
